A fifteen-drawer jewelry chest in figured maple and seagrape, velvet-lined throughout.
This was a first for us: a large jewelry chest, or "smalls" chest, standing 23" tall, 12" deep, and 39" long. A wildly challenging and deeply rewarding piece, balancing lightness of form with quiet complexity. Hidden side chambers hold earrings and necklaces, tucked discreetly into the design.
This is why commissioned work is so meaningful. It asks us to solve problems we'd never encounter otherwise. The maple came from the shop of Timothy Philbrick, one of the finest craftsmen we've had the pleasure to know, and it was an honor to use such a remarkable tree for one of our most unique projects. We designed it as a contemporary play on Shaker craft and restraint.
